Pregnancy is a beautiful, exciting time in your life. As your little human grows, your body goes through many changes. Some changes can be positive, such as glowing skin and shiny hair. However, some changes can be problematic, such as:

  • Back, groin, or rib pain

  • Morning sickness

  • Heartburn

  • Constipation

  • Fatigue

  • Anxiety

  • Small for date babies

  • Breech babies

We see patients in our clinic for all the above symptoms, and more.

One of the first questions many people have is whether acupuncture is appropriate during pregnancy. Pregnancy care at Bloom Acupuncture is provided by a qualified and registered acupuncturist experienced in working with pregnant patients and using pregnancy-appropriate acupuncture points. Sessions are tailored to the individual and many people find treatment time to be a relaxing pause during a time when the body is working hard.

Breech Baby Acupuncture During Pregnancy

During your last trimester, you may find that your baby has not turned into a good position for birth. Acupuncture, and a treatment called moxibustion, is used here. Moxibustion is the burning of a stick made of mugwort leaves, and is applied in-directly over the skin at a specific acupuncture point. Treatment at around 34 to 36 weeks gestation is a good time to try.

Pre-Labour Pregnancy Acupuncture

Pre-labour pregnancy acupuncture is a series of weekly treatments offered from 36 weeks gestation. Sessions are tailored to the individual and many women choose acupuncture during this stage of pregnancy as part of their preparation for birth. Treatments focus on relaxation, wellbeing and supporting the body during the final weeks of pregnancy. Acupressure points that may be used leading up to the birth, and during labour, will be discussed as part of your care. It's a lovely calming time where you can focus on you in the lead up to welcoming your baby into the world.

Induction Acupuncture

Many women seek acupuncture support in the final weeks of pregnancy as part of their birth preparation plan, including when a medical induction has been scheduled. When there is no medical indication for induction, sessions are generally focused on relaxation, wellbeing and support during the final stages of pregnancy. However, when there is a medical induction booked, we can try induction acupuncture. It is best to start this four to five days before the medical induction.
