What Should I Expect in an Acupuncture Session?

Your practitioner will conduct an in-depth health assessment from a western medical and traditional Chinese medicine perspective. You’ll be asked questions about your physical, mental and emotional health, as well as your lifestyle habits. Any necessary tests, such as range of movement tests, may be conducted.

Once all the necessary information has been gathered, your practitioner will explain the treatment plan they’d like to go forward with. You’ll receive a 20-to-30-minute treatment. This may include acupuncture, cupping, massage and/or Chinese herbs, as will be discussed with you.

It is a very relaxing process, and often patients fall asleep on the table.

What is Acupuncture Anyway?

Acupuncture is an ancient traditional Chinese medicine practice that involves inserting very fine, single-use needles into specific points on the body to stimulate energy flow or “Qi”. Research has shown that acupuncture influences the nervous system, improves blood flow to various body tissues, promotes the release of natural painkillers (endorphins), and regulates various physiological processes. It is a safe, effective and natural (drug-free) practice.
