Peri-Menopause Acupuncture

While menopause is a right of passage to a calmer phase in life, peri-menopause can affect your daily life. Our treatments at Bloom Acupuncture consider the person as a whole, approaching therapy in a positive, mind-body, holistic way. We aim to assist you through this phase, reducing your symptoms as much as possible.

For Relief From Uncomfortable Symptoms, Try Our Peri-Menopause Treatments

While a perfectly natural stage of a woman's life, for some, going through peri-menopause can be difficult, painful, uncomfortable, or even frightening or embarrassing. You might start to notice changes in your menstrual cycle in your late 30s or early 40s as your hormones begin to fluctuate. Then as time progresses, you may suffer from some of the following symptoms:

  • Insomnia

  • Anxiety, irritability or other mood changes

  • Hot flushes

  • Night sweating

  • Bladder and vaginal problems

Benefits of Traditional Chinese Medicine (TCM) and Acupuncture for Peri-Menopause

Traditional Chinese Medicine Auckland

TCM treats the cause of the symptoms, not just the symptoms themselves. The aim is to balance the body's 'Qi' (our 'vital energy', pronounced 'chee’). Treatment usually involves acupuncture and Chinese herbal medicine, but may also use moxibustion, cupping or massage when appropriate. Diet and lifestyle changes that may benefit you can also be discussed. Through this treatment, you may see a reduction in your symptoms, such as less frequency and intensity of headaches, reduced stress and anxiety, or a reduction in hot flushes and night sweating.

What You Can Expect From Us

Our focus is on bringing balance back to your body and mind, so that your symptoms reduce.

Your course of treatments will include:

  • A in-depth consultation: We approach each patient's needs individually, so please answer in detail so we can tailor your treatment to your body and your objectives. Please bring any pertinent medical reports along.

  • Initial treatment: After evaluating your health, symptoms, and goals, you'll receive a 20 or 30-minute acupuncture session. We'll insert fine needles along selected meridians or pressure points, and you can then relax on the table for some 'me-time'. Patients often fall asleep on the table, then wake refreshed and ready to go at the end of the session. If Chinese herbal medicine is indicated, these will be mixed up while you are slumbering.

  • Follow-up appointments: Following the personalised treatment plan created for you, we will see you every week or so for follow-up sessions lasting 40 minutes. As treatments progress and your symptoms lessen, we can stretch out the time between treatments.
