What is Acupuncture?

Traditional Chinese medicine is a form of holistic healthcare which has evolved over thousands of years. Acupuncture is one technique that we use to treat people. Originally from China, these practices and techniques made their way to New Zealand, and for decades, acupuncture in Auckland has helped give many people relief from their symptoms.

Acupuncture is an effective, drug-free practice. It is safe when practiced by trained professionals, offering physical and emotional healing and support. It involves inserting extremely thin, single-use, disposable needles into precise points around the body. This allows the rebalancing of Qi (pronounced 'Chee’) or energy that flows around your body, helping your skin, muscles, tissues and organs.

Benefits of Acupuncture

As acupuncture is a natural therapy, you may need six to ten treatments to see real change. However, this depends on how acute or chronic your condition is and how your body responds to treatment. Often you will feel some improvement after the first or second treatment.

The benefits of acupuncture have been shown through research into many conditions:

At Bloom Acupuncture, we have a passion for treating women's health, such as fertility and pregnancy, as well as helping with aches and pains through ACC acupuncture treatments.

What Happens in a Session at Bloom Acupuncture in Auckland City?

A consultation from both western medical science and traditional Chinese medicine perspectives will take place. The beauty of traditional Chinese medicine is that it looks at every person as an individual and seeks to find and treat the unwanted symptoms' underlying cause. So, we ask lots of questions and observe the skin, eyes, tongue and how the body moves. We may use gentle touch on the body surface to determine any tension, swelling or abnormalities and feel the pulse.

We will devise a treatment plan involving acupuncture, moxibustion, cupping, gua sha or massage as required. When acupuncture needles are inserted, you may sometimes feel a small scratch or pin prick, however this should go away quickly, and you can then relax for the rest of the treatment, allowing your parasympathetic nervous system to gain the benefits of acupuncture. The goal is to restore your balance and health as much as possible.

Following treatment at Bloom Acupuncture, Auckland, you may feel revitalised or a bit tired. It is common for the benefits of acupuncture to be felt the next day. Sometimes, your symptoms may flare initially before getting better. If you are concerned about any post-treatment feelings, please contact us to discuss how to assist you best. Every body is different and has a different reaction. But the goal is to bring the body back into balance, improving or relieving you of your unwanted symptoms.
